For Better or for Worse....Away We Go Again!

Hi, and a Happy Horny Friday night to all my Bloggie friends and acquaintances! (And I really do think of some of you that way...I even have some of y'all on my Facebook and shiz... A special shout out to Julee and Carrie, who are my Facebook buds due to this blog..:0)
I address you now as a kind of half blog update/half Last Will and Testament. Tomorrow afternoon, me and The Fam head out to start a four day backpacking trip at Cape Chignecto, (or as I affectionately call it, the Widow Maker.) It's the most difficult hike in Atlantic Canada, and one Bob and I braved back in the summer of 2006. We was POOR back then (OK, we're poor now, but whatever) and we braved this most grueling of hikes sporting $25 Wal-Mart backpacks and a $20 Wal-Mart pup tent. By Day 3, Bob's pack was strapped to him with duct tape as it had basically fallen apart. Day three was also memorable as we had an up close and personal encounter with the elusive Mainland Moose (which is so scarce that it's almost like encountering a Yeti...)

Unfortunately, the awe of the encounter dimmed quickly when we realized A: This was a massive beast that could easily turn us into hamburger and B: We were two days into a four day hike and COULD NOT get around the damn thing! (The picture might not make it crystal clear, but there was a river on one side and a cliff on the other.)
Here's the picture after Bob hit it in the arse with a rock, it turned around and we both freaked out....

Fortunately, we were about as important to Mr. Moose as a fly on his ass, and he ignored us and meandered up the path far enough to inch up the hill and around His Highness....
We hustled up the hill out of there as fast as our little legs would carry us, and proceeded to change our underpants a mile or so along the way.
Additionally, I threw up every damn day, suffered a near nervous breakdown due to torrential rain (not unrelated to a serious chafing problem) and got somewhat drunk on whiskey in a tent.
So, WOO HOO! Let's do it again, and this time, let's take the children! I hear that bears have moved into the area, to add to the rustic charm!
But seriously, folks. This is the kind of trip that defines a person, and lets you know what you're really capable of. I know that we'll all find it difficult, but at the end of the day, we'll stagger out of the woods a few pounds lighter and a hell of a lot more confident in our abilities. I can't imagine going through life without ever finding out just exactly what you're capable of. I know it was very good for me, and I know that the kids will find it an amazing accomplishment.
So take care for about six days or so, and I'll be back with an update! Peace until then, peeps! And when I get back, I have a review of an online vegan food delivery service called Gobble Green. Stay Tuned!

This sounds like the sort of trip I wish I wanted to take. Good luck. (with the weather, I mean)

And I agree that moose look a lot bigger and more dangerous on the trail than they do in pictures. Have you ever heard the sound a bunch of them make while running towards you?

Now I really feel left out...I am not on Facebook or Myspace or anything! In fact, I am impressed with myself for having the techno know how to leave a comment on a blog (blog?! What is a blog?!)!

Have a fun and safe trip! I hope you all survive :o)

PS I am gonna try your seitan breast this week, I think. Still not sure what to use for the mayo, but I will hopefully come up with something--thanks again for posting the recipe!

Can't wait to see who you met on the trail this year!

I felt the same accomplishment the one and only time I went caving many moons ago. It is an amazing feeling.

I hope you're all still alive, and possibly even having a good time!

My family drove up to Maine once when I was a kid and encountered a moose on the road. We were in a minivan, and if we hadn't stopped in time to not hit the moose, the moose would have WON. They're so freaking big.

Good luck on your trek!
I was camping in Five Islands last weekend, not far from Cape Chignecto. Beautiful area. I'd love to go back and hike that trail.
Can't wait to hear about it when you come back...
