I Love This Poem....
Ok folks, I'm busy doing case studies this evening....(Yes, I'm actually still studying to be a Holistic Nutritionist) so posting the leftovers I ate this evening just isn't in the cards. I'll just share this poem, from poet-for-kids Shel Silverstein. I love it; so simple, yet so incredibly profound. I encourage all of you who are still on the meat-eating fence to seriously ponder it's message tonight. Peace and love to all....
Point of View
by Shel Silverstein
Thanksgiving dinner's sad and thankless
Christmas dinner's dark and blue
When you stop and try to see it
From the turkey's point of view.
Sunday dinner isn't sunny
Easter feasts are just bad luck
When you see it from the viewpoint
Sunday dinner isn't sunny
Easter feasts are just bad luck
When you see it from the viewpoint
of a chicken or a duck.
Oh how I once loved tuna salad
Pork, lobsters, lamb chops too
Til I stopped and looked at dinner
From the dinner's point of view.
Oh how I once loved tuna salad
Pork, lobsters, lamb chops too
Til I stopped and looked at dinner
From the dinner's point of view.

I had to come out of lurking status to comment on this post. I've been reading your blog for a while and look forward to your posts. I have to admit that while your food is always great, I really come for the banter that comes in between the recipes and photos-- you truly have a gift!
Anyway, I love Shel Silverstein but had never seen this poem-- I am going to print it out and tape it on the fridge. Thanks for sharing it!
i am so in love with shel silverstein. i was first introduced to him when i was wee and mom got me "where the sidewalk ends" but as i grew, the poems made even more sense, as a teenager i discovered that good ol' shel was not only a "poet for kids" but one for adults as well...and quite afreaky musician as well! go find "freakin' at the freaker's ball" the whole album is super killer! thanks for this memory :)
That's a wonderful poem. Thanks for sharing.
Awww...I love Shel Silverstein! I bet I still have a few of his books in storage somewhere...
